Eagle Island is dedicated to inspiring and empowering young people to grow into confident, collaborative, and courageous individuals. Originally built as one of the finest Great Camps in classic Adirondack style, it has hosted summer camp programs for more than 80 years. Today, it operates as a private nonprofit offering youth and family camps on its 31-acre island on Upper Saranac Lake. Surrounded by nature, participants can unplug from daily distractions and reconnect with the outdoors.
The Eagle Island Youth Camp offers week-long day and overnight programs for children entering grades 3 through 9. Each day includes a mix of structured and flexible activities designed to encourage exploration, creativity, and teamwork. Campers enjoy waterfront activities such as swimming and kayaking, along with swim lessons and outdoor STEM-based learning.
Additional programming includes nature education, crafts, team-building exercises, and practical survival skills like fire- and shelter-building. Campers also have opportunities for self-directed play in open spaces, allowing them to create their own experiences.
Eagle Island emphasizes hands-on learning and personal growth, viewing camp as an extension of education. Programs are designed to support each camper’s unique interests and abilities while fostering independence, confidence, and a lasting connection to the natural world.
