This is the third waterfall you’ll encounter along this section of the Raquette River. The distance involved makes it likely that you’ll visit all three falls in a single outing.
To reach Upper Falls, continue on the riverside trail for about half a mile beyond Raquette Falls. Between the two, the river is mostly a continuous stretch of rapids, broken only by a brief segment—roughly 150 to 200 feet—of calm water.
Upper Falls stands out as the most scenic and impressive of the trio. The trail between Raquette and Upper Falls is similar in character to the main route from the parking area—generally moderate in difficulty. However, the final few hundred feet are more challenging, with a rougher path and some rocky sections. Once you arrive, a short scramble down to the riverbank offers a closer look at the falls—and it’s definitely worth the effort.
