Welcome to the Cook Farm! We are a 26.5 acre regenerative farm nestled beneath Owls Head Mountain.
What exactly is a regenerative farm? A regenerative farm is an operation that produces any combination of crops and/or animals utilizing practices that reverse climate change by sequestering carbon into soil organic matter. Regenerative farms intentionally include functional biodiversity in order to enhance ecosystem services that provide critical inputs to agriculture, such as soil fertility, pest and disease control, water use efficiency, and pollination.
We raise a variety of livestock species including goats, pigs, turkeys, chickens, and ducks utilizing regenerative practices with an emphasis on the humane treatment of our animals. We are perhaps best known for the soaps that we make with our own goat’s milk. We sell our products online, at our farmstand, and at the local farmer’s market.
We are firm believers in the power of local farms to address the instability of our modern food system, and we are dedicated to educating others about the issues facing American agriculture. We encourage people from all walks of life to visit our farm to learn how food can be produced in a sustainable manner.
We are proud members of Adirondack Harvest, High Peaks Farmers’ Markets, and Tri-Lakes Regional Farmers’ Cooperative.
We offer farm tours and immersive farm experiences to people of all ages!
Farm tours are approximately 1 hour in length and consist of a walk of the grounds to view the different animal species we raise, our pastures, our barn, and our market garden. During the tour, we will discuss the regenerative practices that we utilize on our farm and the importance of building resilient local food systems.
Immersive farm experiences are more hands-on and are tailored to smaller groups. Experiences are approximately 1.5 hours in length and consist of picking seasonal produce from our market garden, collecting eggs from our free range hens, feeding vegetables and other treats to our pasture raised pigs, taking a temperature reading on our compost pile, and taking our ambassador goats, Chuck and Larry, for a walk up the dirt road.
We welcome guests to come camp overnight on the farm in tents or RVs. Our tent site is located across the street from our greenhouse, overlooking Ingraham Stream. For RVs, we offer a level gravel parking site in front of our greenhouse with views of our sunflower field. Guests have access to a picnic table, a fire pit, a garbage bin for trash disposal, and a portapotty (during the peak season). We only host one group at a time, so guests can enjoy the peace and quiet of our property to the full extent possible.
Our little town is the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Within a few miles of our property, there are hiking trails to Owls Head Mountain and High Falls Waterfall, paddling opportunities on Indian Lake and Mountain View Lake, trails for ATVing, public land for hunting and fishing, and there are even a couple of restaurants.
