Dark skies, high elevation, and a dedicated group of amateur astronomers make Tupper Lake a premier destination for stargazing in the Adirondacks.
The Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory enhances this experience with a growing, state-of-the-art facility. Located near Little Wolf Beach & Campground, its roll-off roof observatory—the first of three planned buildings—appears modest by day but transforms at night when its massive roof retracts, revealing breathtaking views of the sky.
Inside, visitors will find four mounted telescopes, including the restored 1925 Everest “Old Town Pump” Telescope, along with smaller scopes and astrophotography equipment suited for all experience levels.
Now open for public and private sessions, the center also offers workshops, events, and year-round educational programming. The observatory operates Friday evenings (weather permitting), while the office on High Street is open weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The mission of the Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory is to provide engaging educational experiences in astronomy for all ages. It promotes public awareness, supports amateur astronomers, partners with schools, and contributes to scientific discovery.
