Directions to Access Points
From the intersection of Route 458 and Route 30 north of Paul Smiths, follow Route 30 south. Continue to Barnum Pond on the right; the access area is roadside.
Shoreline Fishing
Shoreline fishing is limited from the access area; there is a nice rock and additional areas to access the shore from Route 30 on the north, northeast side of the pond.
Boat access
Cartop boat access is the easiest, but a small boat with a trolling motor or a small outboard would work too. The deepest part of the lake is on the NE corner. There is not much room for a car to back in a boat without being in the line of traffic, so be very careful. Aside from that, the pond is very shallow, with a maximum depth of about 10 feet. Fish the weeds and grassy areas along the southern shore for some of the more productive spots.
Fish Species
Brook trout, bullhead.
Special Regulations
Always follow state fishing regulations, and be sure to pick up a NYS Freshwater Fishing Guide at your local outfitter or a regional NYSDEC office.
