Berkeley Green is located in the middle of downtown Saranac Lake, at the intersection of Broadway and Main streets, which makes this relaxing place more than a park — it’s a lively gathering space.
About the park
During the warmer months, you might find people enjoying a picnic or reading on the grass. It's a popular spot for events and has hosted music, art, and more over the years.
Every now and again, park-goers might also hear the clanking of the 6er bell as intrepid hikers complete the six mountains required for the Saranac Lake 6er challenge: Baker, St. Regis, Scarface, Ampersand, Haystack, and McKenzie. Step onto the stage, and you’ll find the official 6er kiosk and trail register. This is the start and finish for those vying for Ultra 6er status — that is, climbing all six mountains in a 24-hour period.
Speaking of mountains, look around, and you’ll also find a Walk of Fame plaque for Herb Clark, the first documented person to climb the 46 highest mountains in the Adirondacks.
In winter, snow blankets the ground, and lights go up as Berkeley Green transforms into a festive, decked-out space that hosts carolers, a fire pit, and a large holiday tree.
