Chasm Falls Fishing Access is a scenic public access point on the Salmon River known for productive trout fishing below a dramatic waterfall section.
To get there, travel east from Malone on County Route 26 toward Chasm Falls Road; the access site is marked by a small roadside parking area with a short, steep footpath leading down to the river. The trail is not long, but it can be uneven and slippery, especially in wet or early spring conditions.
The fishing here is centered around fast, oxygen-rich water created by the falls and downstream rapids. This section of the Salmon River supports strong populations of stocked and wild brown trout and rainbow trout. Anglers target deeper pockets behind boulders, seam lines where fast and slow water meet, and tailouts below riffles. During spring and early summer, aquatic insect hatches can bring consistent dry-fly action, while nymphing and small streamers are effective year-round in the deeper runs. The combination of structure, current variation, and cold water makes it one of the more technical but rewarding trout fisheries near Malone.
