How to get there
About 14 miles south of Malone on NY 30, in the hamlet of Duane, CR 14 intersects. A little more than seven miles west of here, you will come to a canoe access parking area on the right. Just beyond that there is a seasonally maintained access road on the right. Park on the roadside near there.
While the falls are visible from the road, a short trail across from a seasonal access point leads you right to the top of the cascade. From there, it's an easy walk along the riverbank for a scenic view of the river. Additional paths, though less defined, can be found a bit farther down the road and offer views from lower downstream.
Just above the main drop, the river begins with a small rapid—a roughly three-foot dip—before reaching the main feature: a split waterfall flowing around a small island. The island itself is dotted with a handful of pine and hardwood trees. On the near side, a narrow chute about 10 to 12 feet wide tumbles down in a few stepped drops. The far side is much broader—around 40 feet wide—and makes a single, more dramatic plunge.
