Meacham Lake in Duane, New York, is a peaceful and scenic destination tucked into the Adirondack Park, perfect for anyone looking to unwind in nature. The lake covers about 1,200 acres, stretches roughly 2 miles long and 1 mile wide, and reaches a maximum depth of about 80 feet with an average depth of around 36 feet. Sitting at an elevation of about 1,552 feet, it has a shoreline of roughly 5.5 miles, giving visitors plenty of space to explore. Boating
Boating is one of the best ways to take in the full size of Meacham Lake. Rowboat and canoe rentals are available. A new boat launch is located within the campground on the eastern shore of Meacham Lake. The boat launch has a concrete ramp with floating docks designed for use by people with disabilities. There are 21 parking spaces for vehicles and boat trailers, including one parking space reserved for people with disabilities.
The old boat launch located outside the campground along Meacham Road in the northwestern corner of the lake remains open for the launching of canoe, kayaks, and other car top boats free of charge. The parking area has 15 spaces for cars with trailers, including one accessible trailer spot, and 6 vehicle only spaces.
Fishing
Meacham Lake is a managed body of water. It is stocked yearly with 2,000-3,000 splake and brown trout. It's also home to some impressive bass, pike, and perch. The south end is weedy and good for pike, while the eastern half, between Roaring and Winnebago Brooks, is where to look for smallmouth bass. The northern shore is home to Meacham Lake Campground, with a boat launch. Species: splake, northern pike, smallmouth bass, brown trout, lake whitefish, brown bullhead, rainbow smelt, fallfish, yellow perch, and pumpkinseed. Special fishing regulations Trout season: All year, any size with a limit of five. Landlocked salmon season: All year, 15 inch minimum length with a limit of three.
Paddling

One highlight is Debar Mountain, which offers a rewarding hike with forest views and a true backcountry feel. The hike can be a bit challenging, but reaching the summit gives you a great payoff and a beautiful view of the region.
Camping
Camping at Meacham Lake is one of the main highlights of visiting, with a large DEC-managed campground offering a total of over 200 sites that are a mix of waterfront, regular, and rustic sites. The waterfront sites are right along the lake, giving you easy access to fishing, paddling, and relaxing views right from your campsite. The regular sites are set a bit farther back but still offer a comfortable and convenient camping experience with easy access to all the campground features.
The campground also has picnic areas, modern bathrooms, and newly built shower houses, making it one of the more comfortable camping spots in the Adirondacks. These updated facilities include clean restrooms and hot showers, which are a big plus for both tent campers and RV visitors. For those who want something more remote, the rustic sites offer a quieter, more secluded experience with fewer amenities, often tucked into the woods or along less developed parts of the shoreline.

Birding
The large lake and its marshy edges can hold species like Common and Hooded Merganser, American Bittern, and Ring-necked Duck. Birders can also hike along the trails in the state campground where a wide variety of warblers and other songbirds can be found. Boreal pockets of habitat can contain species like Gray Jays.
A camping trip may offer serenading Barred Owls during the night and Broad-winged Hawks, Bald Eagles, and Sharp-shinned Hawks during the day.
