Description
Just outside Saranac Lake in Bloomingdale, Sumner Brook is a small Adirondack stream flowing into the Saranac River. It’s an easy roadside stop offering a quiet, scenic glimpse of the Adirondacks without a long hike.
Getting There
From the north or south, follow New York State Route 3 to Bloomingdale and turn onto Oregon Plains Road. The brook runs alongside the road with a few informal pull-offs for quick access.
Fishing
Sumner Brook is a stocked brook trout stream, ideal for visitors seeking a relaxed, uncrowded fishing spot. Light tackle works best in this narrow, tree-lined water, especially around pools and bends. Regulations from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation apply: anglers may keep up to 5 trout per day (minimum 9 inches) with a valid New York fishing license. Always check current rules before visiting.
